GENUS - ACER

Amur 'Flame' Maple
acer ginnala 'flame', Zone 3 - 15 ft.
Small Asian maple tree having dense foliage and a spreading habit - very tough. Vivid scarlet autumn show makes this an excellent ornamental planting. Often used in Japanese landscaping and Bonsai. Seeds harvested from the 'Flame' variant.

Trident Maple
acer buergeranum, Zone 5 - 25 ft.
Gets its name from having a distinguished three lobed dark green leaf. A nice garden or lawn tree as it is fairly compact with good fall colour. Also popular in bonsai cultivation.

Ornamental Striped Bark Maple
Acer capillipes,  Z5 - 25 ft.
An interesting and fairly rare striped bark Maple tree native to Japan. Smaller than the Acer pennsylvanicum with white stripes on brown. Yellow to crimson fall colour.

Ivy Leaf Maple
Acer cissifolium,  Z5 - 30 ft.
Leaves are composed of 3 leaflets; tree is quite rounded in form as wide as it is tall, does well in full sun and has fabulous fall maple colours. A Japanese native and one of the rarer Japanese native maples in the garden.

Box Elder Maple Tree
Acer negundo,  Z2 - 60 ft.
Extremely hardy for drought and cold. Fast growing shade tree. Thrives anywhere but not as long lived as other Maples, it will however readily naturalize and reproduce.

Oliver Maple
Acer oliverianum,  Z6 - 25 to 50 ft.
Named after its discoverer the English botanist Daniel Oliver (19th cent.) Elegantly beautiful relative of the Japanese Maple possessing five-lobed leaves with each lobe being long and narrow. Fairly rare in North American gardens. Like many other Maple trees it has sensational autumn colors of oranges and reds. Younger branches are quite red in winter.

Striped  Maple
Acer pennsylvanicum,  Z4 - 40ft.
A small North American native maple with brilliant golden yellow fall colour. Smooth green bark with white stripes. Clear yellow fall foliage. Excellent landscape tree.

Norway Maple

A large and adaptable green maple with very good bright yellow fall colour.

Red Maple
Acer rubrum,  Z3 - 100 ft.
Dense foliage, profuse small red flowers in April. Native to the eastern U.S. More cold hardy than Acer platanoides and grows faster. Brilliant scarlet fall colour.

Redvein Snake Bark Maple
Acer rufinerve,  Z5 -  25/35 ft.
A 'Snakebark Maple', bright crimson coloured Fall display, white stripes on green bark. Bonsai Potential.

Mountain Maple
Acer spicatum,  Z3 - 30ft.
An excellent small to medium size maple tree native to Eastern North America. Brilliant fall colours adaptible and very hardy.

Tartarian Maple
Acer tataricum,  Z4 - 30ft.
Small tree similiar to Acer ginnala but taller and having unlobed leaves, very good red fall colour and bright red samara wings. Very tough/hardy-an excellent choice when a smaller colourful Maple tree is desired.
