European Hornbeam
Carpinus betula, Z4 - 40ft. 50 seeds.
Said to be one of the finest landscape trees; excellent for groupings,
hedges or screens. Upright oval habit when mature-dark green foliage,
yellow fall colour.
Oriental Hornbeam
Carpinus orientalis, Z4 - 25ft., 60 seeds
Small shiny green leaves with twisted branches and stems giving the
tree an interesting winter aspect.
Blue Beech (or Ironwood)
Carpinus caroliniana, Z4 - 30ft., 60 seeds.
Handsome dark 'Beech like' tree. Dark green leaves in summer with good
yellow, orange and red fall colour.
Heartleaf Hornbeam
Carpinus cordata, Z6 - 25ft., 60 seeds.
Native to Japan, the Heartleaf Hornbeam can be used for a privacy
screen or as a hedge. Good Fall colour, large dark green leaves,
rounded in habit, densely branched. Half as wide as it is tall with 3
to 5-inch-long cigar-shaped seed pods
Atlas Cedar
Cedrus atlantica, Z6 - 60ft., 35-40 seeds.
A very beautiful specimen cedar said to be unmatched by any conifer.
Grey-green needles with pyramidal habit.
Deodar Cedar
Cedrus deodara, Z8 -70ft., 35-40 seeds
A good grower for the south and west coast of the US. Has a very
graceful horizontal weeping habit with pendulous branches. A
particularly beautiful tree.
Cedar of Lebanon
Cedrus libani, Z6 - 40/60ft., NOW SOLD OUT
A 'stately' cedar tree. Wide and flat topped, coniferous specimen tree.
Said to have originated in the Taurus Mountains around Turkey. The
state tree of Lebanon.
Common Hackberry
Celtis occidentalis, Z2 - 75ft., 50-60 SEEDS
Somehwhat similar to an Elm tree but considered to be superior.
Withstands heat and drought. Spreading crown, red-orange berries.
Sturdy, deep rooted and tough. A good tree to hang a swing from. Good
for wildlife too.
Julian Hackberry
Celtis julianae, Z5 - 50ft., 50-60 seeds.
Rarely seen in North American gardens, this Asian hackberry matures
into an excellent shade tree; rather different foliage with leaves
showing glossy above and orange-yellow tones beneath; produces small
orange fruits enjoyed by birds. An interesting addition. A good 'corner
tree' & wildlife planting.
